Autism Resource Room

 

     With the direction of The Autism Project (TAP), United Methodist Children’s Home has worked to ensure resources for children with autism, parents of children with autism, educators, and the community.  The Autism Resource Room has books, manuals, learning materials, DVDs, and computer software.  While books, DVDs, and learning materials are available for check out, free visual support materials will also be available.

     The Autism Society of Illinois - Southern Illinois Network partnered with UMCH, Mt. Vernon City School District 80, and Southern Illinois University - Carbondale Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders to open the Autism Resource Room.  Funding for the Autism Resource Room was made by Mt. Vernon City School District 80 and UMCH.

Borrowing Items

     Parents, caregivers, teachers, and therapists can check out autism-related materials and access autism-specific information at the Autism Resource Room.  Items are on loan for two weeks.  You may borrow up to two books and two learning aids at a time.  If you would like additional time please contact us at 618-242-5600 ext. 226 to request an extension.  We will attempt to contact you by phone or letter if a return is not made or an extension requested.

Returning Items

     Items may be left with the volunteer in the Resource Room or they may be placed in the return box in the Resource Room.  Please leave your name (written on a slip of paper) with the items you are returning.  Failure to do this may result in your not receiving credit for the return.

 

 

The purpose of this room is to serve as a resource to community members.  Diagnostic and treatment approaches are not the expertise or intent; however, referral services may be provided by the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at SIU-C by contacting 618-536-2122.
