Family Centered Services

Our Missions

The mission of the FCS Education and Support Program is to utilize creative, individualized services that are child-focused, family-centered and community based in order to provide training and supportive services to meet the needs of youth and families within their home environment.

The goal of FCS is to decrease truancy, suspensions, and expulsions as well as to ensure continued educational progress for suspended and expelled students.

Eligibility & Referral

FCS supports families and children residing within LAN 1 Alexander, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, Union Counties. Eligible youth will have behavioral and/or emotional problems that affect their school performance. (i.e. poor academic performance, involvement in illegal or risk taking activities, poor peer relationships, etc.)

Referrals are accepted from social workers, teachers, probation officers, DCFS, and other community services.

Our Services

Services are designed to meet individual youth and family needs. This allows flexibility in the program to match treatment to specific need as opposed to trying to "fit" the family into a pre-designed treatment program. Therefore treatment may include but is not limited to the following:

  • Mentoring
Mentoring provides one-on-one treatment with the Education and Support Specialist for appropriate role modeling, social interaction, relationship building and respite time for caregivers.
  • Case Management
Provides an overall supervision of the family system. This service involves facilitating referrals to promote healthy functioning of the family system and parent's participation in school activities.
  • Tutoring
Tutoring is provided by the Education and Support Specialist to encourage youth to succeed and advance educationally.
  • In-home Parenting
This service provides in-home family support focused on increasing family communications and overall functioning. Parenting skills will be addressed using the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) program.
  • Crisis Intervention
A 24-hour based service to all youth and families for emergency situations including school behavior issues, domestic violence, financial crisis, lack of basic needs and homelessness.
  • Individual and Family Counseling
In home or agency based counseling can be provided for those families that are deemed appropriate. Counseling services are goal directed and guided by a structured approach.
  • Transportation
Transportation is provided to youth and families on an as need basis. It must be directly linked to the treatment plan and not available through another entity in the community. This service may assist parents in getting their child to school, attending IEP meetings and various school activities.
  • Treatment Planning & Assessment
Each client will have an individualized treatment plan (ITP) that identifies specific goals. The ITP will be based on the assessments from interviews, interventions & testing instruments
