UMCH Flagpole Dedication

On July 22nd, UMCH dedicated a new flag pole, seating area and a plaque to honor those that have served on the board of directors and specially recognized Mrs. Ellen Walker. Mrs. Walker was honored for her 18 years of services on the UMCH Board of Directors.
Mrs. Walker retired from the Governing Board of Directors in June after serving on the board since 1990 and serving as the Chairman of the board since 1999. Clete Winkelmann, CEO / President highlighted the changes the organization has seen during Mrs. Walker’s tenure including two major construction projects; expansion to four operating sites within Jefferson & Marion Counties; increase in the number of programs / services provided; an increase in the number of staff positions; and a substantial increase in the number of children and families served by UMCH. Mr. Winkelmann also cited Medicaid certification and accreditation by Council on Accreditation and EAGLE (Educational Assessment Guidelines Leading Towards Excellence) as UMCH accomplishments. Mrs. Walker was instrumental in the incorporation of the UMCH Foundation which established an endowment to support the organization. Mr. Winkelmann also noted that Mrs. Walker
started the Friends of UMCH, a women’s auxiliary group that has grown to over 30 members.
There was a large crowd on hand for the dedication including Mrs. Walker’s family, UMCH staff, board members and community members. The students of UMCH’s Quest School performed the flag ceremony which included the pledges to the American and Christian flags.
UMCH is very grateful for the services of Mrs. Walker and all members of the Governing and Foundation Boards of Directors.
