"Hollywood Nights" Residential Prom 2008

Glamorous young ladies joined dapper young men on the red carpet Friday, October10 for the first ever UMCH Residential Prom. Staff members from several departments within the agency united in an effort to plan and produce the “Hollywood Nights” themed prom for the seven boys and eight girls, mostly high school aged teens, living in the Residential Program. Local businesses donated items from formal wear to flowers to add to the ambience of the event.

After school that Friday, staff members formed a makeshift beauty shop in the girls’ home. The young women spent hours getting pampered and beautified for their first ever prom. Cologne from the boys’ home drifted over in waves as the boys donned their suits and ties. “Everyone looked at me as if I was beautiful, and I don’t get that a lot,” one of the young ladies said.

Stars, lights, glitter and floating candles adorned the gym where the youth gathered for dinner and a dance. The teens were able to socialize over lasagna at small tables while staff chaperoned. Following dinner, the music started and the youth danced for about two hours to the sounds of local DJ Mike Vladitch who donated his time for the prom. Capping off the event were pictures taken in front of a pretty backdrop of lights and balloons. “All of the youth looked amazing, and when they walked down the red carpet, they actually took your breath away,” said one staff member. UMCH would like to thank the following local businesses for their donations:  Off Broadway Cleaners, Easton’s Florist, Deanie’s Florist, Goodwill, and Mike Vladitch.
