August 2011 - Volunteer Spotlight - Andrew Black

While most of the young people we serve haven’t met Andrew Black, they have certainly felt the impact of his dedicated volunteering. Andrew has generously given of his time and energy to ensure the success of the mission and ministry of UMCH.

Andrew served on the UMCH Charity Golf Classic committee in 2010 and 2011.  He has been highly committed to seeing the Golf tournament meet its fund-raising goals.  His input during monthly committee meetings was a valuable resource.  Andrew also actively secured sponsorships and door prizes for the event.

“When I get a chance to tell someone for the first time about certain programs and who UMCH provides services to, you can tell that there is that spark in them to do something to help all the children and teens that are in need of our care and support.” he explained.

His dedication in 2011 helped make this year’s golf tournament one of the most successful in history; raising over $31,000 of support for the ministry of UMCH.

Because of his faithfulness to and passion for the work of UMCH, in July Andrew was appointed to the United Methodist Children’s Home Foundation Board.  The purpose of the foundation is to support the ministry of the United Methodist Children’s Home.

“I find it a great blessing to be counted as one of many great men and women that serve on the Foundation Board. There is some amazing talent on the board and I don't believe I can say how grateful I really am to be asked to help with this Board.” Andrew said of his new role.

Our mission at UMCH is “healing today, for a brighter tomorrow”.  This work is greatly advanced by behind-the-scenes volunteers, like Andrew, who raise financial support to ensure our services are available to all in need.
