Volunteer Appreciation Dinner
The United Methodist Children's Home held their First Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on February 25 at the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge.
Joan Minor, UMCH Spiritual Life and Volunteer Coordinator, shared that over the past three months there had been 207 volunteer hours donated to the organization.
“We at the United Methodist Children’s Home want to thank you for all that you have done to help our children in their journey towards healing,” she told the volunteers. “No matter what role you have at the children’s home, each and every one of you has volunteered your time and it has not gone unnoticed.”
The most honored guests of the night were the visiting resources, who donate at least an hour each week mentoring and developing relationships with individual youth on campus. One of the UMCH youth shared about her experiences with volunteer Lisa Thatch. The youth stated, “Time is very precious, and you spend yours with me. I’m really grateful.”
Members of the Governing Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Directors were recognized for their leadership and direction to the mission and ministry of UMCH. Also recognized were members of the Friends of UMCH Ladies Auxiliary. The Friends group plans various activities and celebrations for the youth such as birthday parties and picnics. The Friends Group is a nondenominational group that meets on the first Monday of the month at UMCH.
UMCH has many rewarding volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about volunteer opportunities, please contact Joan Minor at (618) 242-1070 ext. 240 or jminor@umchome.org.
