UMCH Program Update - YouthBuild's suprise visit
As the YouthBuild participants gathered in the morning, a community member stopped to thank all the participants for their hard work. Recently, our participants built a wheelchair ramp in Summersville for an elderly woman, who could not return to her home without a wheelchair ramp being installed.
The participants worked hard for a few days building and measuring the perfect ramp for her home. The man that came to thank the participants was the son of the elderly woman and he told us the story of bringing her home yesterday. He said it was an emotional day and YouthBuild did more than build a ramp, we have provided his mother with an opportunity to be independent again.
It was a wonderful speech and this proves how important our community service activities are. We will continue to help with his mother’s home, especially in the winter months to come, with shoveling snow, ice, and other services.
YouthBuild helps young adults earn their GED while they learn work skills. Each week YouthBuild participants give back to the community through volunteer service projects.
