YouthBuild Grant

The United Methodist Children’s Home is pleased to announce that their YouthBuild grant has been approved by the U.S. Department of Labor.  YouthBuild of Jefferson & Marion counties will receive $676,994 each year for the next two years.

The YouthBuild program serves 16-24 year old high school drop-outs who are of low income -providing educational instruction, vocational training in construction trade and leadership development aimed at helping these young people become productive and self-sufficient members of the community.  Rend Lake College and Kaskaskia College are major partners of YouthBuild, providing GED instruction.  In addition to classroom work, the participants are active in community service projects, housing rehabilitation, and assisting in new home construction. YouthBuild has programming sites in Mt. Vernon and Centralia.

As an enhancement to the current programming, YouthBuild has created a Career Coach position.  The primary focus of this position will be to assist participants in job and educational placements; oversight of the mentoring program; and maintaining relationships with alumni participants.

Applications are now available for both Jefferson and Marion counties.  YouthBuild is a nine month program – the next program cycle begins in late August.
