Planned Giving Opportunities

In 2001, Congress passed a law affecting the rate of taxes charged to the value of estates that are probated.  2010 is the final year this law is in effect, because it is a “Sunset” law.  In 2010, there are no estate taxes charged to any estate, no matter the value.  However, if the Congress does not approve and President Obama signs new legislation we will return to the old estate tax rate of 55%.  Any value of an estate over $1,000,000 will be taxed at the rate of 55%.

That is one reason why it is important to look at your estate every three years to see what changes may affect your desire to protect your family and make gifts to nonprofits.  Remembering the United Methodist Children’s Home in your estate plans could possibly: 1) reduce current income taxes, 2) increase your annual income, 3) have more to give to your family and 4) provide assets to help the Children’s Home.

We hope that you will prayerfully consider becoming a Heritage Builder by designating a gift to the United Methodist Children’s Home in your estate.  Additional information and making arrangements for these types of gifts should be made upon consultation with your Attorney, Tax Preparer or Financial Planner.  Thank you in advance for helping us to ensure the sustainability of UMCH into the future.

If you are interested in becoming a Heritage Builder, please contact Kay Zibby, Vice President of Operations, at 618-242-1070 ext. 255 or kayz@umchome.org.
